VITAL SIGNS 🩺

UNPACKING YOUR CREATIVE PAST

Looking back can be pleasurable or painful, depending on what's behind you.

We're halfway through the year, and for some of us, it's a moment we're not sure how to process.

You might be moving forward with some goals, but others might be stuck in limbo.

So do you start over? Push through? Reset? A combination of all 3?

Well, in a conversation in our God and Gigs 360 GOLD mastermind, I think I got a glimpse of why it's so important to be honest with your progress.

While we talked about trauma and issues we've dealt with in church work growing up (yes, we go there in our mastermind calls), the topic of what we believed about God and creativity came up.

And like many of you, I remember being ashamed about playing / listening to secular music. There was a stigma placed on many of us creatives as we were growing up to avoid "the world."

The question is, are you still mourning the creative you 'would have been' if you hadn't had those negative thoughts put in your mind?

This is where we have to be like Paul, and 'forget those things' that are behind us.

Your creative future is SO much bigger than your past.

So look back at this year, take stock, make adjustments, but DON'T get stuck in "what could have been."

NOTE: If you have more thoughts on this topic, or just want to go deeper in your creative calling, you really should consider joining us in God and Gigs 360 GOLD. There's a space for your voice in our Mastermind discussions.

ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE?

On my birthday, June 1st, I began a campaign to raise funds for my next recording project.

My idea was to ignore the Kickstarter platforms and do everything directly through Convertkit Commerce - since it's literally right there on my desktop with plenty of options for collecting payments.

The results? Well, I got 9 people to jump in immediately at $50 a person. Then 2 more joined last weekend. So I'm above my 20% goal on the way to 50 total supporters.

Here's an example below of what Commerce makes easy to share.

I'm looking for a few good music lovers - specifically - 50 people just like you.

Why is this a huge win? Because I didn't pay ANYTHING in fees or other platform costs. And I'm actually promoting this inside community instead of asking strangers to support my creative work.

My only social sharing has been a few P.S. in the captions and some stories where I blocked out the original music I was playing (creating some FOMO).

So far this experiment has proven very valuable in realizing that you CAN sell your products and concerts - even IN ADVANCE - with the right tools and connection with your supporters.

NOTE: I know many of you have email services already, so you might think joining ConvertKit just for these tools won't make sense.

Good news.

They have specialists that can migrate ALL of your subscribers so nothing is lost. I recommend you check it out!

Stopped in Your Tracks?

Why is it that those of us who have a unique voice are the most likely to keep it under wraps?

If this is true about you, you're not alone. It seems like being consistent with our creative sharing is the hardest thing to maintain - because it's an emotional battle every time you start.

The question is first - why?

And the next question is - how can we change that?

First we have to figure out what we're hiding from. Vote below and let's start a community conversation!

MORE WAYS TO THRIVE and GROW

Here's some more ways that we can help you become a completely confident, God-centered creative.

Value4Value - how we help each other

If you've gotten any value from God and Gigs - our newsletter, videos, podcast, coaching or community - here's 3 easy ways to show your appreciation and send value back our way.

TIME - share an episode, a link or forward this newsletter to a friend. Or leave a comment on our socials - that engagement does wonders for us.

TALENT - we can use any talent or admin skill you want to share - from voiceovers to theme songs. Let me know via an email if you’re interested in sharing!

TREASURE - You can become a producer of our podcast with monthly donations and you can even support the podcast IN REAL TIME via Value4Value with tiny pieces of Bitcoin! (trust me, it's actually way easier than you think)

The easy way to get started having fun in Value4Value is to download a modern podcast app here!

I personally use the "Fountain" app and it's AWESOME.

(Apple and Spotify don't let you connect with me directly like these apps do)

That small sign of support makes a huge difference in my ability to serve you with continuous episodes that inspire and motivate our community.
