VITAL SIGNS 🩺

Who You Are Behind The Scenes

How do people address you when you're among friends and family?

Not the folks who know you as a creative.

The people who know you as YOU.

What the people who know you best say about you, says a lot about how you've built your identity.

For me, it's become increasingly important that I remember who I am outside of my creative work.

As a father, husband, and friend, I have to make sure I intentionally grow in the areas that matter. My creative life and business will only grow as I mature as a person - not the other way around.

My talk with amazing creative and drummer David Chiverton was more confirmation of that fact. He was one of the first guests on the podcast over 7 years ago. He was already a sought after drummer working with all the big names.

Now, he's married, a dad, and a faculty member at a major music school.

But he's still Dave. His core is intact despite years of success, playing with folks like Shelia E and Maxwell.

Make sure that you're centered on who you are outside of the creative gifting God has blessed you with - that makes ALL the difference.

LAB WORK πŸ”¬

We've ALL done it. We've looked at our website / social media / branding and said, "I'm tired of this."

OR, we think that the reason people are not paying attention to our creative work is because we've got a lackluster brand.

So what do we do? Change the colors. Hire a logo designer. Freshen things up.

Here's the funny part. That's probably not the answer.

It's more about what you DO, not how you LOOK.

That's why I'm intrigued with our long-time email / marketing tool, ConvertKit's new move. They are rebranding their ENTIRE company and dropping the name "convert". Soon they will just be "Kit."

But they didn't start with the branding. In fact, they are changing their look in public and letting you see the change.

That's radically transparent.

I think we can all learn from their willingness to skip the looks and get to the nitty-gritty of why they are changing. Don't spend extra time thinking of how to LOOK good. Start MOVING in the direction God is taking you and let people see the process.

We continue to recommend ConvertKit (ahem, Kit) as the best way for you to build your email list, but trust me, there's even more new stuff coming, so you should REALLY pay attention and join them now.

And yes, I am an affiliate. So if you join a paid plan (even though they offer up to 10K subs FREE in their newsletter plan), we do get a percentage, so using our link helps our community grow!

THE CONSULT πŸ’¬

What's the BIGGEST myth about your creative life?

It doesn't matter how long we've been telling people about our not-so-normal lives as creatives...

...people still don't understand what we go through.

In fact, there are many people who still think that we don't have 'REAL' jobs.

But you know better. Still, it's frustrating.

Like our friend Cecelia said on Facebook...this is a feeling few understand.

So we're sharing in our communities something that we help you deal with in our mastermind membership (which is available at a low rate this summer) - the things that many people don't understand about living a creative life.

Which one of these things have you heard the MOST? I'd love to get your feedback on this specific poll we're doing on LinkedIn.

MORE WAYS TO THRIVE and GROW

Here's some more ways that we can help you become a completely confident, God-centered creative.

Value4Value - how we help each other

If you've gotten any value from God and Gigs - our newsletter, videos, podcast, coaching or community - here's 3 easy ways to show your appreciation and send value back our way.

TIME - share an episode, a link or forward this newsletter to a friend. Or leave a comment on our socials - that engagement does wonders for us.

TALENT - we can use any talent or admin skill you want to share - from voiceovers to theme songs. Let me know via an email if you’re interested in sharing!

TREASURE - You can become a producer of our podcast with monthly donations and you can even support the podcast IN REAL TIME via Value4Value with tiny pieces of Bitcoin! (trust me, it's actually way easier than you think)

The easy way to get started having fun in Value4Value is to download a modern podcast app here!

I personally use the "Fountain" app and it's AWESOME.

(Apple and Spotify don't let you connect with me directly like these apps do)

That small sign of support makes a huge difference in my ability to serve you with continuous episodes that inspire and motivate our community.
