WHY COMMUNITY IS OUR CORE

As my family enters a season where we’ll be focused on health and assisting with a loved one's recovery, it has been so refreshing and a blessing to see how our friends and family have rallied around us.

As I wrote in my journal, true healing is both a God-effort and a group effort.

It may seem like we mention it every week, but it can never be overstated. The power of your creativity is directly impacted by the strength and connection of your community.

Without community, we don’t make it to 300 episodes in The God and Gigs Show.

Without community, we don’t have long-term relationships with musicians and creatives that we can call for advice and counsel.

Without community, the God and Gigs book and Your Art, God's Heart devotional doesn't bless hundreds of creatives and literally help some of them reignite their passion to follow God. ​

Without community, our spiritual lives are always in danger of burning out and becoming stagnant.

So as we enter this anniversary season of God and Gigs (we are now entering our 8th year as a community and our 7th year as a podcast), you only need to remember one takeaway.

We are better together - and you should be a part of someone’s together.

LAB WORK 🔬

Start Over or Stick With It?

We’re doing a MAJOR update to our 360 membership community and it’s been humbling.

Realizing how many mistakes I made at the beginning as you update can really make you question whether you’re in the right profession.

While we’re updating the site, it’s clearly affecting our overall revenue - and I HAVE to be ok with that. I’ll never know how much I’ll earn if I don’t give these changes time to take effect.

However, other parts of my business are proving that we did things RIGHT.

Building a strong private Facebook group, community, email list through Convertkit, and branding through Canva has made my Sit Sing Swing series (a local jazz / soul concert series) successful once again despite challenges to our funding.

So what’s the takeaway for our Lab Work? DON’T STOP experimenting and refining the processes that are proven to work.

Small Town = No Big Success?

In our recent BEST OF episode with Gospel music director and producer Warren Brown (one of our first interviews)...we got a powerful reminder that geography doesn’t always determine your success.

Starting from a small town in Georgia, Warren has risen to high levels in the gospel world, but he has never forsaken his roots.

Which begs the question - why do some musicians and entrepreneurs feel that they can’t grow until they are in certain markets and big metropolitan areas?
